Park Gate

This thriving residential community is built along the A27 Southampton Road. Close to the M27, Park Gate grew up around the railway station and was one of the gathering points for strawberries grown in the area.

In 1913 more than 3,000 tons of strawberries were sent out from here. Rail distribution stopped in 1966 but the station is still there and the Station Master’s House is a restaurant. Although fruit and vegetables are still grown in the area, modern industry and new housing dominate the present landscape.
